iPhone 5 Lightning Connector Replacement

On November 24, 2015 by jw

The lighting port on my iPhone 5 stopped working. I tried cleaning it out with some alcohol but it still was finicky. I found a replacement lightning port with tools shipped on eBay for 8 dollars. So I decided to see if I could replace it. I followed a 35 step guide from iFixit to disassemble the phone. Unfortunately to take out the lighting port requires almost every component of the phone to be removed, including the motherboard. It took some time, but I got the new port installed and resembled the phone. Everything works great! Especially the new lightning port.

I plugged in the phone just before closing the screen to make sure everything is working properly. It booted right up on the first try.
