Servo Tools For Maya

Here is a pretty neat motion control plugin for Maya. Servo Tools by Dan Tompson creates a serial connection between Maya and an Arduino Uno development board. Rotational values in Maya are converted to PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signals that drive servos in real time.

There is such potential here for animatronics and motion control. Having a curve editor driving servos in real time is pretty handy for adding weight, timing, emotion and life to robotic characters. I would like to prototype an idea inside Maya and rig it with real world constraints. Then 3D print the rig, add servos, and watch the idea come to life. More to come…
