Nat Geo Wild’s SharkFest

I was able to use some old school tools with this ocean shot along with some new ones too. Bifrost simulated the small splashes around the shark’s fin while the foam was rendered with Maya’s 2D fluid solver and then projected onto the displaced ocean surface. The ocean shader was rendered with MentalRay and a custom foam pass was derived from the displacement channel. I brought all the passes into After Effects and added a few lens effects, grain, and coloring.
